Letter to the Editor
End the abuse and exploitation
of Terri Schiavo!
March 24, 2005
Today, Final Exit Network issued
the following Letter to the Editor in response to today's
Supreme Court decision to NOT hear appeals to reinstate life
support measures for Terri Schiavo. We hope the Supreme Court
has the last word in the protracted struggle over whether
to withdraw life support in the tragic case of Teri Schiavo.
We encourage all readers to submit the letter
to the editor to their local papers. This effort will be most
effective if you submit the letter over your own signature.
You may edit if you wish. Generally, letters to the editor
are limited to about 200 words.
Please do not submit the Final Exit Network
information as part of the letter. Instead, submit it on a
separate sheet enclosed with the letter.
Thank you for your help and support!
Earl Wettstein
President
End the abuse and exploitation
of Terri Schiavo!
To the Editor:
Does the Supreme Court have the last word? Will
the rule of law hold sway? Will the Bush administrations in
Florida and DC accept the decisions of the courts? Or will
Jeb Bush violate the law, trample the constitution, and breach
the separation of powers again by violating court orders and
taking "custody" of poor Terri? What amount of grandstanding
by the President, Congress, the Florida Governor and Legislature
is enough? You "care" about LIFE! You made your
point!
Ironically, the President is inconsistent. Where
were you last Tuesday, Mr. Bush, when a Houston hospital cut
off a baby's life support, against his mother's strenuous
objections, under the "Texas Futile Care Law" you
signed in 1999? Are you ready to sign a "Spiro's Law"
to support Jannette Nikolouzos, who is begging to keep her
husband alive? Was your rush to Washington to sign "Terri's
Law - II" evidence that investing in Terri Schiavo would
reap more "political capital" than intervening on
behalf of these two unknown Texans could?
A peaceful, dignified death is the Last Human
Right - an individual's choice! It's not an excuse to grandstand
at Terri Schiavo's expense. It's time for all of you to obey
the law!
"Until laws protect the right of every adult to a peaceful,
dignified death, Final Exit Network will be there to support
those who need relief from their suffering today!"
